5 winter foods that help improve your childs eyes

I remember when I was young, my mother used to tell me eat carrots you will never have glasses and your eyesight will be good… So what your child eats has a strong impact on health and vision.

There are plenty of winter foods, which are good for the eyes and will help strengthen a child's eyesight apart from improving weak eyesight too. Research has shown that vitamins A and C combined also with vitamin E can help enhance the visual process.

Carrots

Carrots are known as one o f the richest sources of carotene (a type of vitamin A),which in turn, helps in keeping eyes healthy and prevents a deficiency called night blindness (where night vision is impaired) in children.
You add it like gajar ka halwa and murrabba (preserve) or grate and add to curds or uttappam or stuffed parathas or as soups or in muffins, idlis, sandwiches a great way to incorporate into child's diet.

Green Leafy Vegetables (or call it as Popeye’s food)

Different type of greens or we call it as “saag” like methi, sarson,bathua,palak, chawli etc.. are abundantly found in winters. Include them in form of spinach soup and bathua raita or knead them into chapatti, makki and missi roti dough given with jaggery with a dash of ghee is a great method too.

Fatty Fish

Fatty fish contain essential fatty acids specially omega 3 which forms a part of every cell membrane. Fishes like salmon, sardine, tuna, cod, and halibut make great choices for strong eyesight in children. Give your child grilled or baked fish, twice or thrice a week to help provide ample amounts of vitamin A.

Eggs

Eggs contain healthy fats, lutein, and zeaxanthin, (antioxidants) which are important nutrients for eyes, a form in which it can be directly absorbed by the body.

Butter & Ghee To Boost Eyesight

Adding a spoon or two of ghee or butter to your child's diet is another way to strengthen your child's eyesight.
Keep in mind that your child's diet can play an important role in keeping his/her eyes healthy.
